{Places to go: I heart NY Desserts}
Last summer, me and the boy went to New York for ten days of feasting, shopping and living it up in the big apple. I had a huge list of “things to eat” for when I was there, here are a few of my faves that you need to try next time you’re there:
1. Black and white cookie & Chocolate Babka - made famous by Jerry Seinfeld: “Look to the cookie Elaine.. look to the cookie“, using the cookie as a metaphor for racial harmony. It’s a soft cake-like shortbread topped with vanilla fondant on one side and chocolate fondant on the other.
From the same episode, the chocolate babka – pockets of rich chocolate rippled between layers of flaky and tender dough and topped with streusel. This just melts in your mouth. Pull it apart and have it with some tea.. divine.. (I got both the cookie and babka at Dean and Deluca).
2. Momofuku Milk Bar – known for their cereal milks, unusual cookies and decadent rich desserts. I tried their “compost cookie” – made with pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch, chocolate chips. They also have something called “crack pie” – consisting of a toasted oat crust, gooey butter filling that is the talk of the town.
3. Bouchon Bakery – their infamous “TKO’s” – translating to Thomas Keller’s oreo - a chocolate sable cookie sandwich with white chocolate ganache. Mr. Christie had got nothing on this cookie.
4. Lady M Cake Boutique: One of the best desserts I’ve ever had, the Lady M signature Mille crepe cake – 20 paper thin, hand-made crêpes layered with ethereally light, pillowly clouds of creamy custard with a crunchy caramelized crust on top. Absolute heaven…
5. Minamoto Kitchoan: AMAZING and beautifully packaged japanese sweets.
Love their Fukuwatashi-Senbei - a crisp japanese style cookie shaped like a ruffle chip filled with vanilla cream. As well as their sakura flower mochi – filled with red adzuki bean paste and wrapped in a sakura leaf.
What I missed and wish I tried…
The Serendipity 3 Fffrozen Hot Chocolate… yumm…how good does that look!?

Going to NYC really soon, any other suggestions or hot spots would be gladly appreciated! =) I’m jotting these down right now…!
Yes absolutely, you should go to Balthazar in Soho, great cafe and amazing food. Anthropologie for shopping. Le Bernadin (voted best seafood restaurant in north america by GQ magazine) if you can afford to splurge, i highly recommend this restaurant – the talented eric ripert and his 3 michelin star restaurant. Babbo, Mario Batali’s restaurant is amazing, as well as his other restaurant, the spotted pig. Magnolia Cupcakes are not as good as people make it out to be in my opinion, but definately a busy place. Place I never made it to but I have heard great things about, Payard Patisserie and Bistro – great authentic french pastries by a master chef. Above all, GO TO LADY M! Its right by all the museums in the upper east side and get the mille crepe cake!! It will change your life! Let me know how your trip goes! I’d love to hear about the places you went to
