(Places to eat: Bliss & Co. – buttercream heaven}
There has been a cupcake place in chinatown I’ve been meaning to visit for awhile. A little hard to find shop just off centre street and 3rd Ave called Bliss & Co. Cupcakes & Desserts
The shop is small and cute. Cupcakes are clearly the big seller here, they compose about 3/4 of the desserts there. I also read that they make AMAZING rustic hand pies which was the reason I had come in the first place, but unfortunately they were out today
Oh well, next time.
So not wanting to leave empty handed, I picked up a few of their cupcakes:
14 Karrot Gold -spiced carrot cake base with cream cheese buttercream frosting
After Eight – chocolate cake base with mint buttercream frosting
Black Velvet – chocolate cake base with cream cheese buttercream frosting (Look at the HUGE cloud of frosting on this one! holy yum!)
Overall, they’re quite good, all you want in a cupcake, moist cake with about the equivalent amount of frosting on top, although that last one probably had a higher ratio of frosting. Personally, I could probably do with just half of the buttercream, but delicious nevertheless. Single cupcakes will put you back $2.95, but it goes down to $2.35 if you buy 4 dozen or more. They also have mini cupcakes and full size cakes for those special occasions. Oh, and they’re nut-free, a huge plus for those with allergies, as some of the other local bakeries use nuts in their facilities.
I also picked up a brownie there, they just looked too good to pass up. Chocolatey & rich, crispy on the outside, moist and dense on the inside. Mmm…
All in all, two thumbs up. Definately will be checking this place out again when they have those fruit pies..
Bliss & Co. Cupcakes and Desserts: 108 – 3rd Ave SW Unit 111 (lower level) Open Tues-Fri 11am-4:30pm | Sat-Sun: 12pm-4pm

Just as an update, in my pursuit to try one of their pies, I was told they are baked on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We just had Bliss & Co cupcakes for my little boy’s birthday party. They are so yummy. My favorite is the coconut b/c they bake coconut into the cake as well as putting it in the icing.
I’m excited to visit their new retail outlet in Chinook when it opens. It will be much more convenient than their current location b/c of the parking situation.
What a lucky boy to get a Bliss & Co cake for his bday! MmM, I will definately try the coconut one next time, I LOVE coconut.
Yes, I also saw the signage at Chinook!! So excited! Now the only thing we need is for Chinook to sort out their parking situation with all these renos.
Food looks outstanding will have to give it a try next time I’m in Calgary.
